Government Information
Monrovia Chamber Government Affairs Committee
Part of the mission of the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce is to keep members informed on legislative issues that may affect their everyday business activities. Chamber staff handles numerous requests on a daily basis, directing members through what can seem like a bureaucratic maze. We work closely with the city of Monrovia and other government entities to serve the interests of the business community.
Karin Crehan, Executive Director, and Peter Hoffman, Chair of Government Affairs, actively represent your business interests through a variety of avenues. For example, Crehan is a member of the San Gabriel Valley Chamber Legislative Coalition, who meet monthly to discuss issues that may directly affect how you do business in Monrovia and the region. Crehan also regularly attends and keeps abreast of Metro Gold Line Extension Authority information.
The Government Affairs Committee is informed on legislative activity at the local, state, and federal levels. Local business members, representatives from the city of Monrovia, Supervisor Antonovich, Assembly Members Portantino and Adams, Senator Huff, Congressmen Drier, the League of Women Voters, along with the Monrovia Unified School District assemble monthly at the Chamber to discuss current legislation that can influence your business.
We welcome you to get involved and join us for the meetings.
This committee meets the second Tuesday of the Month at 8:00 a.m., all committee meetings are held in the conference room at the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce, 620 S. Myrtle Ave., Monrovia, CA 91016, unless otherwise noted.

Financial Regulatory Reform Bill
Last week, by a vote of 60-39, the Senate adopted the Conference Report on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. With the House having already adopted the Conference Report, Dodd-Frank now goes to President Obama to be signed into law. The President is expected to do so this week, probably on Wednesday, June 21. All of the Democratic Senators voted in favor of adopting the Conference Report, except for Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) who had announced previously that he would vote against what he considers to be an insufficiently robust financial regulatory reform package. All Republicans voted against the Conference Report, except for Senators Scott Brown (D-MA), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Olympia Snowe (R-ME). To proceed to the vote on final passage, Dodd-Frank had to first obtain 60 votes to end debate on the measure and then obtain 60 votes to dispose of an amendment raising a budgetary point of order that was offered by Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH). Senators Brown, Collins, and Snowe provided the Republican votes required to get to 60 on each vote.
