Mother's Day Tour - Monrovia Historic Preservation Group's Annual Tour: May 11th, 2008 10:00 am | ( details )

The Monrovia Historic Preservation Group will again be offering an exclusive tour of private residences in the city of Monrovia .  Five homes have been selected in close proximity to each other to allow tour goers the opportunity to experience "time travel" in a unique way.  The homes give attendees an opportunity to "stroll through time from 1887 to 1939", the period during which the homes were constructed.  Quality craftsmanship and detail are abundant in their construction.  The homes also feature well-appointed landscapes which are both relaxing and invigorating, allowing the viewer to get in touch with nature amid the verdant greenery.  The home styles were chosen to allow visitors to chronicle Monrovia 's historic development as a foothill community.  Vintage cars and period music will accent the viewers' passage through time.  Docents stationed throughout the homes will provide additional information about the homes' histories.

On Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2008 , from to , attendees are invited to view the five homes on tour.   The homes selected are close to  each other to minimize the driving time from house to house.

Tickets can be purchased in advance. They are available in our online store (secure PayPal transaction - small service charge), by mail (see contact us link), and from the following merchants in Monrovia and Pasadena:

- Monrovia Bakery (Myrtle Ave., Monrovia)

- Diron Services (Colorado Blvd., Monrovia)

- Boxx Jewelers (Myrtle Ave., Monrovia)

- Crown City Hardware (Pasadena)

Tickets can also be purchased at the Monrovia Friday Night Festival (MOHPG will have a seller's table) beginning April 25th.

On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at the Anderson House Museum (215 E. Lime Ave.) beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Your ticket purchase includes a brochure with pictures and histories of the homes and a map (brochures can be picked up at the first home visited).  Ticket prices are: adults - $18, seniors (65 and older) - $15; teens (17-13) - $12, and children (12 and under) - free

We offer this opportunity of sharing a pleasant Sunday morning and early afternoon with friends and loved ones or simply by oneself, to experience the opportunity of touring several San Gabriel   Valley treasures.  All proceeds of the Mother's Day tour support the preservation and conservation efforts of the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group, a non-profit organization.

Monrovia Day Celebration: May 17th, 2008 9:00 am | ( details )

Monrovians will celebrate 122 years as a community is traditional fashion May 17 with a parade down the middle of Myrtle Avenue.

Monrovia has been celebrating its birthday with similar parades on the third Saturday in May since the first one on May 17, 1897.

The parade will kick off at 9 a.m. at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Myrtle, and proceed south through Old Town to Chestnut Avenue.

It will be preceded by the traditional pancake breakfast at the Community Center, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.   The pancake breakfast is set to begin at 6:30 a.m.   Because of constriction of the new Public Library in Library Park, this year’s activities will be limited to the breakfast and the parade.   The community march down Myrtle is being dedicated this year to Monrovia’s children, with the theme “Celebrating Monrovia’s Youth: Our Future, Hope and Heroes.”

Hometown Grand Marshall’s will be Monrovia High School “Students of Character.”

The celebration is coordinated by the Monrovia Day Committee.
